First Sale Was A $6000 Product by Scott Roughgarden
Honey Bubbles CoFounder Scott Roughgarden: I worked for Red Bull when I was in college. It was probably the most fun job any college student could have. I would literally drive around in the big Mini Cooper with the Red Bull can on the back. South Florida was our playground.
This first thing I ever sold? It was the first summer in college where I didn’t go back [home] to New Jersey. I would stay in South Florida. I’m staying in West Palm Beach. I don’t want to go back for the summer. I loved it down there. The whole lifestyle was great. I worked for my friend’s media company and the first thing I sold was a $6,000 website and I got 20% commission. And I was like “Oh my gosh! This is a lot of money!” (for a college kid).
Yeah…I think that was the first thing I ever sold. I sold it…I think to a school. It was in Delray Beach. That was the first thing I sold. But prior to that I actually had connections to the food and beverage industry in Florida. I worked for Red Bull while I was in college. It was probably the most fun job any college student could have. I would literally drive around in the big Mini Cooper with the Red Bull can on the back. South Florida was our playground. And when you’re in college and you’re showing up on college campuses, you meet a lot of people. You know every bar and nightclub manager from West Palm all the way down to Miami. It created an environment to have a lot of fun.
And then when I was a senior in college, I quit Red Bull and I ran a marketing campaign for Heineken while I was a senior. It was their Heineken Beats Promotion where we went to all their major key accounts in Palm Beach and Broward County. And I would implement this Heineken Beats campaign. I had my promo models and the band that I had to bring out. It was fun.
